White Sands Monument, NM
One of the big attractions near Alamogordo is the White Sands National Monument and we have to visit at least once every time we go to New Mexico. This year we did the longest trail available in the dunes to the Alkali Flats and back. This trail gets the hiker farther from the road and crowds than any other in the park and one sees the biggest dunes there. The mountains on the other side of the Tularosa Basin provide a nice back drop.
