On our walk into the mountains at Three Rivers, we encountered one single small apple tree in flower. This was dramatic because all the other vegetation was pine, juniper, or oak trees with only green, brown or black for color. Even more remarkable was that the blossoms had attracted many butterflies and other nector seeking insects. This show the most spectacular of the butterflies, a two-tail swallowtail. We stood and watched the action of the butterflies for a half-hour before continuing on our walk.
