Late winter and early spring are windy months for New Mexico. Southern New Mexico has not had any rain for five months. The snow that fell at the first of February did not seem to wet the ground much but evaporated. As a result the desert is dry and dusty. The dust is picked up into the air whenever winds excess 20 mph. This scene is typical of a dust storm when the air is so thick with dust the mountains are obscured. On these days it is best to stay indoors. Even then the dust gets into the apartment and cleaning is required afterwards.
