We had one nice day in Alamogordo before the weather changed completely. A large cold air mass descended over the southwest and the rest of the US giving the coldest and snowiest conditions we had ever seen in the area during our ten years of vacationing here. We had temperatures as low as -22 C and 20 cm of snow. Whereas the snow usually melts in a half day when the sun rises, this snow stayed around for four days. Day-time temperatures did not get above freezed for two days. Many people lost water due to plumbing pipes freezing and some did not have heat or electricity for days. The demands for these energy sources were the highest ever.
