All along the route we took from middle of Kansas to the Missouri border was polluted with smoke from the grass fires used to burn the fields of grass. As times the smoke was heavy crossing the road and a safety hazard. When we stopped in Independence, KS for the night, the smell of smoke stayed in the air.
