The only relief in the flat country that is the panhandle occurs because of stream erosion. The most dramatic in this area is the Palo Duro Canyon just south of Amarillo. Buffalo Lake is less dramatic and does not have a lake associated with it. The water that is suppose to be there never collected because the dam was condemned as not safe. We had been to this reserve in previous years and found Scissor-tailed flycatchers and other interesting birds. However, this year it was drier than usual and there were few interesting birds.
