Holoman Lake near Alamogordo

This is another spot we can visit to see concentrations of waterfowl. This is the Holoman Lake, which collects the waste water from Holloman Air Force Base about 10 miles west of Alamogordo, N.M. This lake always has water in it. An adjacent lake is usually dry but attracts shorebirds. Because of the nearness of this to Alamogordo, we visit this more frequently. The ducks we saw this year were very abundant but most were Northen Pin-tail Ducks. We saw a few Cinnamon Tea, Bufflehead, American Wigeon, Lesser Scaup, and Gadwall.
