|Which country did the Bogan's of Crawford County come from?|
Germany and specifically the city of Darmstadt in the region of Hesse-Darmstadt. Johann Nicholas Andreas Bogen arrived on the shores of North America in 1776 as a Hessian soldier to fight for the British in the American Revolutionary War. He was captured at the battle of Yorktown, VA in 1781 and held in Frederick, MD until 1783. When released he stayed in Frederick, married and worked there the rest of his life. His first son, John Henry Bogen, was the person to bring the Bogan's to Ohio in 1835 and he is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Bucyrus, Ohio.
