CRESTLINE: James "Jim" F. Bogan, 96, of 2357 Beck Rd., Crestline, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Magnolia Terrace in Galion.
Jim was born in Crawford County, OH on September 5, 1915 to the late Frank and Bessie (Nungesser) Bogan. He married Violet M. Hocker on September 14, 1940 and she preceded him in death on March 18, 1986. On May 12, 1990, he married F. Vivian Knell, and she preceded him in death on September 23, 2008.
He retired from farming in 1986. For 28 years, he was a trustee with Jefferson Township and had also worked for 14 years as a North Robinson School Bus Driver. Jim was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served as Superintendent, served on the church council and sang in the choir. He enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by three daughters, Janet (Raymond) Steward of Mansfield; Marcella "Marci" Blankenship of Bucyrus, and Lorraine (Hollis) Walter of Galion; seven stepchildren, Ruth Althouse, Roanoke, VA, Harvey Knell, Yorkville, IL, Judy Smith, Bucyrus, Marlene Hasen, Powell, Jeanette Butler, Worthington, Lois Smith, Springfield, and Dr. Floyd Knell, Zanesville; 25 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Myron "Mike" Bogan of Westerville.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Blankenship; son-in-law, Calvin Blankenship; and a brother, Ralph "Sam" Bogan.
Friends may call Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Tuesday February 14, 2012 at 11 AM with Pastor Wilmer Hallman officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens, Crestline.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or HomeCare Matters Hospice in care of the funeral home.
