October 1, 1897 (9 days after death)

Note: "Died at North Robinson Saturday at 10 a.m., Mrs. Christina Smith, widow of the late Jacob Smith [sic]. The cause was consumption. She was aged 79 years and a few months. She had been ailing for several months before death came to her relief. She was a member of the U. B. Church for many years. She was great great grandmother [sic] to a number of children who were at the Smith reunion a few days ago. The funeral of the late Christiana [sic] Smith occurred last Monday at the U. B. church, in the village of North Robinson, Rev. Powell, of Tiffin, officiating, assisted by Rev. W. H. Schrock, of the Lutheran church. The services were attended by a large concourse of people who came to pay their last respects to the deceased, who had won the esteem of all who knew her. The deceased was born in Germnay, March 2, 1821. At the age of 11 she came to this country with her parents who located in Perry County, Pa. In November 1838 she was united in marriage with Daniel Smith. To this union were given four sons and three daughters, of which number five remain to mourn their loss. There are also 33 grand and 13 great grandchildren. She quietly passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 22, 1897, at the age of 76 years, 6 months, and 23 days. Her husband preceded her to the better world 16 years ago. The deceased united with the U. B. church at the age of 16, to which communion she remained faithful until summoned hence. She died as she lived in the hope of a blessed immortality." Crawford Co. Forum, Friday, 10-1-1897

Shared note

Her obituary is ambiguous saying - "aged 79 years and a few months" - "76 years, 6 months, and 23 days" which gives 28 Feb 1821 - "born in Germnay, March 2, 1821"
